Gabriela Mayorga Adame has completed her three-month visit to the
Institute of Marine Sciences (IMS) in Zanzibar where she set up the
coastal model ROMS for the Zanzibar Channel. Her third and last
progress report can be found at
http://www.theissresearch.org/zanzibar/progress.php.
She has also written a scientific report that summarizes her work. It
can be found at
http://www.theissresearch.org/zanzibar/gabriela_final_report.pdf.

As always, I would be most grateful for any comments or suggestions
you might have. Please consider joining the East African Coast mailing
list, if you have not yet done so. It provides a forum for discussing
coastal oceanography in East Africa. We have already 36 members. The
subscription page is at
http://www.theissresearch.org/mailman/listinfo/east.african.coast

In September, Gabriela will start a Master's course in physical
oceanography at the Oregon State University and be supervised by Hal
Batchelder and Ted Strub.

We are currently planning to submit proposals to the US National
Science Foundation (NSF) and the Carnegie Corporation of New York to
request funds for sending more coastal modelers, like Gabriela, to IMS
and other East African oceanographic institutions in the next few
years. Our plan for a proposal to NSF has now matured and has become
very concrete. If you are interested in our future activities please
let me know.

Thank you very much for your interest and all the best,

Jurgen
