Objectives

Capacity development in coastal modeling at the Institute of Marine Sciences (IMS) in Zanzibar, Tanzania and opportunities for US undergraduate and graduate students to obtain international research experience are realized by pursuing the following three objectives.

Research. Develop a coastal model of the dynamics of the Zanzibar Channel that produces an annual cycle resembling as closely as possible the real annual cycle by using the Regional Ocean Modeling System (ROMS) and making measurements in the Zanzibar Channel with an ADCP and a CTD

Education. Provide education for research staff at IMS in Zanzibar and visiting US undergraduate and graduate students by organizing the research into several small and closely supervised projects to be carried out by them as well as an opportunity for the visiting US students to gain experience in working in a team, a network, and a different culture

Network. Establish a worldwide network of advisors, supporters, and mutually beneficial partnerships to help achieve the research and education objectives
